Disney Girl Doll or American Girl Doll Crochet Minnie Mouse Hat Pattern

My daughter and I were recently shopping at a thrift store (our favorite stores, ever!) when we stumbled across a Disney Girl Doll. We paid a whopping .99 cents for her (what a steal), brought her home and knew we needed to craft some clothes for her.

The very first thing my daughter requested for her new doll was a crocheted Minnie Mouse Hat. I quickly agreed to work one up, she IS a Disney Girl doll after all! This pattern is very simple to follow and can also be used for an American Girl doll or any other doll similar in size. After I crocheted this simple hat I scoured Pinterest to find some free sewing patterns for American Girl dolls and crafted her a shirt and a pair of leggings. You can find the links to the patterns that I used following my crochet pattern below.

Materials required for this project:

*Worsted weight yarn in any colors desired (I used pink, black and white Red Heart yarns for the Minnie Mouse hat, although you can use this pattern to crochet a basic beanie in any color(s) you’d like!)

*H hook

*Scissors

*Darning needle

Stitches used:

Single crochet – sc

Chain – ch

Half double crochet- hdc

Slip stitch- ss

Using black, ch 2

Row 1. 9 hdc in 2nd ch from hook. (9) (you can pull your beginning yarn tight to close the center hole)

Row 2. 2 hdc in each st around. (18)

Row 3. 1 hdc in 1st st, 2 hdc in next, repeat around. (27)

Row 4. 1 hdc in 1st 2 st, 2 hdc in next, repeat around. (36)

Row 5. 1 hdc in 1st 17 st, 2 hdc in next, repeat once. (38)

Rows 6-7. 1 hdc in each st around. (38)

Switch to pink yarn

Rows 8-12. 1 hdc in each st around. (38)

Row 13. 1 sc in each st around. (38)

SS to 1st st, finish off.

Ears, worked in the round (make 2)

Using black, ch 2

Row 1. 9 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (9)

Row 2. 2 sc in each st around. (18)

Row 3. 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next, repeat around. (27)

Row 4. 2 sc in 1st 2 st, 2 sc in next, repeat around. (36)

Row 5. 1 sc in each st around. (36)

SS to 1st st, finish off.

Bow, make sure to ch 1 and turn at the end of each row.

Using pink, ch 31

Row 1. hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across, ch 1, turn (30)

Rows 2-4. 1 hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn.

Place the two short ends together and ss across to connect the ends. Finish off.

Using a piece of pink yarn, wrap around the center of the bow (over where you connected the two short ends to cover the stitches) at least 20 times. This creates a bow center and pulls the center in. Use your crochet hook to pull the yarn through the back of the bow center, sew the end into the bow.

Dots, worked in the round (make 6)

Using white, ch 2

Row 1. 9 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, ss to 1st st, finish off. (9)

Sew in ends on your hat and assemble the hat as shown in the photos.

OK, so now on to the sewing patterns for her beautiful outfit. Shout out to these wonderful crafters who so generously shared their talents with us! These are the two different patterns that I followed:

Doll Leggings by SewAdollable.com

I made the inseam on my leggings about 2 inches longer than what the pattern called for, just in case, and they seem to fit really well.

Doll T-shirt by Second Chance Studio

I did NOT use an old T-shirt for this pattern. I used pink cotton fabric, so I had to hem the bottom. I also added about 1 extra inch to the straight edge of one back piece so that one half of the shirt would overlap the other a bit more.

There you have it! I hope you enjoy my crochet pattern and these wonderful sewing patterns. Thank you for stopping by, and happy crafting!

Shari
